
Welcome to Bradford District Health Promotion Service's Home Pages
Bradford District Health Promotion Service (BDHPS) works at 3 main levels to support and develop effective health promotion across Bradford Metropolitan District:
- with organisations and multi-agency partnerships, to develop policies and
strategies which create better health and/or make 'healthier' choices easier
choices
- with health promoters who work with the public, for example people working in community health initiatives, schools and in primary health care
- directly with the public in some instances, for example specific community
development initiatives and health education programmes
BDHPS is organised in four teams, each of which covers a range of work:
A range of services is provided free of charge, restricted to organisations and
people working with Bradford residents (and targeted wherever possible and
appropriate to communities with greatest need):
- training courses and seminars in health promotion skills, methods and
topics - an open access training programme is produced annually. Health promotion training tailored to specific needs can also be arranged by negotiation

- a comprehensive health education/promotion resource library/loan service, including
videos, pre-viewing facilities, teaching packs, books, reports, leaflets,
posters, audio-visual equipment and access to various on-line computer
databases. Over 3000 up to date resources are stocked, and a catalogue
is available at a variety of locations throughout Bradford. General

- professional graphic design service, including access to laminating and laser

- advice and support on needs assessment, planning, implementation and
evaluation of health promotion activities and involvement in `alliance

The service aims in particular to encourage ways of working (for example
community development) which are based on evidence of effectiveness and:
- are concerned with reducing inequalities in health
- try to involve and empower people around their own health concerns
- explore opportunities for working jointly with other services/agencies
CONTACT INFORMATION
BDHPS is based at Salts Mill, Saltaire, Shipley, only 100 yards from Saltaire
railway station and with pick up/drop off parking at the door and free parking
on the site perimeter. It is open 8.30. a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday and
8.30 - 4.30 p.m. on Fridays (closed statutory holidays, Christmas week and
one week during the summer for stocktaking).
